OR Native American School Mascots Can Stay
The Oregon Senate has overturned a ruling by the Board of Education on Native American school mascots.
The board banned them last year and gave schools five years to change their mascot or risk losing state funding.
A bill was passed today that allows schools to keep their Native American mascots if it doesn't bother local tribes. It now goes to the House.
Critics say the mascots are racist. Supporters, including some tribal members, say they're a source of pride.
