Auburn Football Under Fire
The Auburn Tigers football program is back in the news again and not in a good way, as former Sports Illustrated and New York Times writer Selena Roberts released a report alleging pay for play and academic fraud during the Tigers run to the 2011 National Championship win over the Oregon Ducks.
Aaron Brenner, who covers Auburn for the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer joined John Canzano on the Bald Faced Truth today to talk about the recent allegations from Roberts.
Brenner said that it has been a “nutty day” in Alabama as he sorts through the “scathing allegations” put forth in Roberts’ 4,000 word narrative. Brenner used the words “witch hunt” to describe the continued inquiry into the football program’s wrongdoing.
Former Tiger head coach Gene Chizik has called the allegations “outrageous” and “absurd” and most of the players quoted have claimed that they were misquoted in the article.
Brenner has been on the beat for eight months and loves the Auburn fans’ passion for their football team. “I mean that’s how it is down here,” said Brenner. “It goes football, football, football, church, football, football.”
