Dozens Line Up To Adopt Neglected Dogs

70 abused and malnourished dogs that were seized from a Marion County rescue shelter near Brooks last month have a clean bill of health and were put up for adoption today at the Oregon Humane Society.  Others are being nursed back to health and will one day meet new owners.

The president of Willamette Valley Animal Rescue and two others were arrested after investigators found 149 dogs and two cats living in small kennels and crates filled with stench without food or water.  Some of the animals were housed together, making an even tighter fit. 

Investigators were tipped off by past employees.  All involved call it the worst animal neglect case in Oregon.

24-year-old Alicia Inglish of Salem was arrested and charged with animal neglect and tampering with evidence.  19-year-old Amanda Oakley, a board member, and 21-year-old Merissa Noonan were also charged with animal neglect.

We talked with a few of the people who showed up to bring home a new family pet.  A woman says the time was right after she lost her dog over a year ago.  Another just moved into a new home with a big yard, saw the story and says it was a perfect fit.  One man was looking for a companion for another dog he just adopted.  Somebody else says she had to convince her boyfriend to get a dog and this story did it.
