Lisa Ling Joins Flight 750

Lisa Ling has worked as a field correspondent for the Oprah Winfrey Show and CNN, she has been a contributor to ABC’s Nightline and National Geographic Explorer and she is the former co-host of ABC’s The View. She joined Chad on Flight 750 Monday to discuss her newest venture, the follow-up season to Our America with Lisa Ling on the Oprah Winfrey Network.
Ling talked about when she discovered her love for journalism.
“I realized I wanted to be a journalist when I actually started working as a journalist at 18 years old. I started working for a show called Channel One News. It was seen in middle schools and high schools. Anderson Cooper from CNN was one of my colleagues there and we were hired to be these young looking correspondents and cover the news for our audience. The show sent me all over the world and I explored and was able to experience things that in my wildest dreams I never thought I’d be able to experience.”
Ling also talked about her path to becoming a correspondent for the Oprah Winfrey Show.
“I was working for National Geographic at the time and I took one of my shows onto the Oprah show to promote and they really responded to me very favorably and they asked me if I’d like to become their field correspondent, and of course I was like “Let me think about that…Um yeah!”
Ling also talk about one of her most dangerous projects, reporting on the MS-13 gang.
“When I reported on the MS-13 gang for National Geographic, it was and still is considered the World’s largest gang and I don’t think anyone could possibly imagine how deep and far-reaching its tentacles can be. There’s MS-13 all over the world now and it is such a sophisticated traffic organization that you would never expect by any means.”
