Dave Tristani spent four years in the fame and limelight as wrestler Devin Nash from WCW Monday Nitro. He is now an ordained pastor and Bishop of the Tree of Life Church in St. Petersburg, Florida. He joined Chad on Flight 750 Monday to discuss his transformation from pro wrestler to pastor.
Tristani explains that his path to wrestling was different than most people.
“I was working in the corporate world and started getting bigger and bigger and stronger and know that I wanted to make a change out of the corporate world. I moved to St. Pete, Florida and found out that this was the wrestling Mecca. I found a school – wrestling school that is – and started training and continued in the gym. And then we bought a fitness center and one thing led to another - Here I was 36 years old trying to become a wrestler, broke my back (people think it’s fake but not all of it is fake) – Continued to work out after it healed, went back in and started training again at age 40 and at 41 I was on national television.”
Tristani also insists that the most important thing anyone can do is maintain faith, even when times are tough.
“If you keep the faith and keep working and preparing God will open these doors, and that’s what he did. He opened the doors for me. Now I’m actually a Bishop, which is the highest-rank you can have in the church of God…I’m doing what God’s wants me to do and I’m loving it.”
And finally, Tristani talked about how he finally got his big break.
“I wasn’t a very good wrestler, I was an old wrestler. I was becoming a wrestler when everybody else my age was retiring. I didn’t have the skills then but I wouldn’t quit. I was never a star. But I looked just like Kevin Nash who was a star and that’s really what got me on WCW.”
