Parrish Bennette at sentencing

Yashanee Vaughn

Parrish Bennette accepted a plea deal in the 2011 murder of his 14-year-old girlfriend, Yashanee Vaughn, and was sentenced to 18 year-old behind bars for manslaughter.  He could've spend a minimun of 25 years locked up if prosecuted for murder.

He was 16 when prosecutors say he shot and killed Vaughn in his bed, then dumped her body on Rocky Butte in Northeast Portland.  Bennette will be free when he's 34.  He has no chance of being released early.

Yashanee's body wasn't found for months.  Her family is outraged after learning just this week that the defense kept quiet on where she was all the while in hopes of a lighter sentence.

"For four months they knew where she was and she laid in two feet of dirt decomposing and they knew where she was and wouldn't tell us?  That is sick, that is inhumane", said Vaughn's great aunt Marsha Hayes after court.

The family still believes that Bennette did not act alone and are upset that more wasn't done in the case.
