State of Repair?
I’m not holding my breath for Governor Kitzhaber to take MY suggestions for his state of the state address this week but here goes. The governor needs to fix the Public employee retirement system now…not a year from now. This system is bankrupting local government as they spend more and more to fill the pensions of the government elite while citizens pay more taxes and get less service. The Governor needs to address the destructive behavior of union long shore thugs…who threaten to drive away the business that keeps the Port of Portland one of the biggest economic drivers in the region. Kitzhaber appoints the board. Kitzhaber needs to drop his crazy plan to release murderers, rapists and robbers from prison for a tiny savings to the state budget…and a huge cost to residents of the state. He needs to abandon his plans for a sales tax. Government has plenty of your money. And Schools need a fix…not with more cash…but a system that punishes mediocrity among teachers who fail about 40 percent of the state’s school kids. Oh, and by the way, no silly unconstitutional infringements on gun rights.
