After a weekend of rumors, untrue twitter updates and a couple dinners with NFL teams, Chip Kelly is staying on as the Head Coach of the Oregon Ducks.  Adam Jude of the Oregonian was down in Eugene today for a private media news conference with the media.

Jude insists that he had no idea that Chip was going to stay with the Ducks.

“I thought he was gone.  99.9 percent sure he was gone.  The one little caveat for Chip Kelly is that I don’t think anybody has a great read on Chip Kelly.  The way he thinks and the way he does things is so unique and so different from most people – You assume he’s going one way and then all of a sudden like a De’Anthony Thomas spin move, he cuts the other way and he’s gone – In this case though “Gone” being that he’s coming back.”

Jude also gave some insight as to why Chip may have decided to stay in Eugene.

“Chip and Mark Helfrich specifically they can sort of finish each other’s sentences.  I know they have a great relationship; they have a lot of respect for one another.  They’re both really smart and really funny guys and I think they have a great time here…And then you look at the team Oregon is bringing back: Marcus Mariota and company on offense – Gosh they’re going to be special, not only this year but the next couple years.”

Take a listen to Jude’s interview and check out Rob Mullens’ media press conference from this afternoon.
