Explosions Rock University of Oregon Campus
A transformer in an underground tunnel at the
University of Oregon in Eugene blew, causing several explosions for about a half hour this morning. Two utility workers in the tunnel were away from the blast site and not injured.
Students returning from winter break were notified by text message to stay out of the area around the health center and Walton Hall. Several buildings were evacuated.
The blast created a smoky haze that leaked out of manhole covers and knocked out power across campus.
