Sam Bowie has long been known as an infamous person here in Portland because of the way he never lived up to the hype he had coming out of Kentucky and the fact that the guy the Blazers didn’t draft just happened to be Michael Jordan.  ESPN 30 for 30 Films is coming out with a new documentary covering all aspects of Bowie’s life from the early days, to his pro days, and then on into his current days.  Jon Fish from ESPN 30 for 30 films joined Chad on Flight 750 to talk about the film and to give an idea of what to expect when the film premiers tomorrow.

Fish insists that people really don’t give Bowie the credit he deserves for never giving up.

“No matter how many times his legs didn’t work for him, he was never going to let that stop him from continuing to play.”

Fish also says he admires his dedication to carving out an NBA career.

“That was the amazing thing for me – The not one in college…Not two in the pros…Not three in the pros…but a fourth one – It’s unbelievable breaking both legs and still playing ten years in the NBA.  It’s absolutely amazing.”

And Fish explains that his overall goal in all this was to make sure that people know the real Sam Bowie.

“Everybody knows Sam Bowie the man taken before Micheal Jordan, but people don’t know the High School athlete, Sam Bowie before he gets injured, Sam Bowie the Olympian, Sam Bowie the guy who takes the team to the Final Four.”

Take a listen to the interview and make sure to check out the premier of “Going Big” with Sam Bowie tomorrow on ESPNU at 6:00pm  If you can’t make that or do not get ESPNU, there will be an encore at 5:30 pm Monday on ESPN.
