Avalanche Warning in Effect

There is an avalanche warning currently in effect for the Mt Hood area.  Mark Moore is the director of the Northwest Weather and Avalanche Center.  He says the risk of an avalanche is high right now because the weak snow that fell earlier in the week is being covered by dense, heavy snow.  Moore doesn't expect the air temperature to increase anytime soon either.  That is good news for skiers and snowboarders and it means there will be a slow decrease in avalanche danger over the weekend.
Even though ski resorts do active avalanche control, he says avalanches can still occur, even in bounds.  He suggests everyone ski with a buddy, and always carry a beacon, shovel and probe while skiing, even if in bounds.  You can check the avalanche forecast here before heading out.
