Meet Baby Elephant Lily

The Oregon Zoo asked the public to vote on one of five names for their newest baby elephant and the winner is in.

Lily took 60% of the online votes.  Lily was born ten days ago, weighing in at 300 lbs.

"The outpouring of support for the zoo and its newest resident has been incredible," said Kim Smith, zoo director.

"We received more than 50,000 votes on the zoo website, plus a ton of e-mails, calls and Facebook posts.  This community is definitely inspired by Rose-Tu's new calf."

Lily ventured outside for the first time this weekend, spending a while in the back sand yard of the Asian elephant habitat with mom, Rose-Tu.
