The Ducks and Beavers faced off in the 116th Civil War over the weekend at Reser Stadium, and like the most recent four matchups between the two schools, this Civil War ended with the Ducks coming out victorious. Kerry Eggers of the Portland Tribune joined Bernie on Flight 750 on Monday to breakdown the game and to talk about some post-season storylines.
A lot of people have claimed that the Civil War, which just a few weeks ago looked like one of the biggest Civil Wars in history, ended up being a letdown because of recent performances by both the Ducks and the Beavers. Eggers spoke to that on Monday.“I’m sure there was a letdown after the Stanford game for the Ducks and I would say the same thing for the Beavers the week before with Stanford. But you get over that…It may seem old to Duck fans but being in a BCS Bowl is not easy. There’s not many teams that get to do that…And in Oregon State’s case, they're probably looking at the Alamo Bowl or at worst, the Holiday Bowl. That’s a lot better than they’ve been in the last few years.”
With Oregon’s fourth straight win over the Beavers and its fourth straight BCS Bowl appearance, many people are speculating that Chip Kelly is going to leave the confines of Eugene, Oregon and take his talents to the NFL after the season. Eggers addressed that situation as well.
“He’s done just about everything he can do at Oregon except win a National Championship…You can be in the picture, you can be in the top eight, top ten every year and not win it and I just have a feeling there’s going to be a job that’s going to entice him this year.”
