Thousands of union members got pink slips last week at Hostess baking and now there’s word the company may be sold to Mexican owned Bimbo. Late today we learned the union is suddenly open to talking. When the union workers were out of the job, compromise re-entered their vocabulary. Funny how that works.

For the life of me, I can’t understand why American workers put their future in the hands of union thugs who would rather shut a company down and kill jobs. Now Portland area Longshoremen threaten a strike that could destroy jobs at the Port of Portland…including Long shore jobs. General Motors workers had their jobs saved by President Obama violating America’s bankruptcy rules and the auto workers union owns nearly half the company. Yet GM is announcing new production plants in China that represent the kind of outsourcing the unions and the President say they oppose.

NBC’s 30 million dollar a year anchor Matt Lauer, tilts toward union rights, but when the network fired a bunch of workers, did he take a cut in his union pay to save his union brothers like Jay Leno…not a dime. I once belonged to a union, against my will, that hurt workers…till we decertified it. The Union fought the will of the workers in court for almost two years till we got our right to vote. In the decade since I haven’t heard a single worker wish for union representation. If you want to keep your job, you might want to consider firing the union that threatens to get YOU fired.
