Stanford Shocks Oregon in OT

It was a battle with Pac-12 North title implications. And unfortunately for Oregon, Stanford used its brain and its brawn to defeat the number two Ducks 17-14 in overtime.
Oregon came into the game averaging 342 rushing yards per game, but Stanford’s stifling run defense held the Ducks to less than 200 yards rushing for just the second time this year.
Marcus Mariota was 21 for 37 passing for 207 yards with one TD and one interception – This just one week after throwing for 377 yards and six touchdowns.
Stepfan Taylor rushed for 161 yards on 33 carries, but more important, he completely controlled the clock for the Cardinal and helped to keep Oregon off the field.
The combination of Kevin Hogan and Zach Ertz was lethal for the Cardinal as the two connected 11 times for 106 yards and a very big touchdown reception near the end of regulation.
But the story that everyone in Oregon will be talking about is the kicking game. Going into the season, Oregon was only five for nine on field goal attempts for the season. Alejandro Maldanado went 0-2 on field goal attempts for the night, missing one in regulation and one in overtime.
His Stanford equal, Jordan Williamson, missed a field goal in regulation, but made the kick that mattered to win the game in overtime.
Next week the Ducks travel to Corvallis to face the Beavers in the Civil War, and Stanford travels down south to UCLA to face-off against the Pac-12 South leader.
