Sellwood Heated Over Sex Offender Clinic
Residents in Sellwood say they had no clue that an unmarked building on Milwuakie Avenue in Sellwood was actually Whole Systems Counseling, a clinic that councils sex offenders. The community packed Stacato Gelato to talk about the latest neighborhood concern Monday night. The clinics owner, Johneen Manno, said that she warned several local businesses including the Boy's and Girl's Club that's just down the street. However she said that she did not alert the Sellwood Montessori School that is just one block away. The clinic treats close to 140 sex offenders, but none of them are required to stay away from school's, this according to Manno. Joe Holliman with Sellwood Montessori told KGW "That's kind of like having lambs next to a pack of hungry wolves. We don't feel very comfortable with it," Manno says that they have signed a five-year lease, and that the law is on her side. She has offered to reconcile with the community but say's they are unwilling to compromise.
