Tim Brando is one of the most well-known broadcasters and play-by-play announcers of the past 15 years and he has become one of the most iconic voices in the SEC.  Brando is the play-by-play announcer for CBS Sports’ NCAA Tournament coverage.  In addition, he is the host of College Football Today, CBS’ college football pre-game show.  He joined Chad Wednesday on Flight 750 to talk some SEC Football and to preview the likely Oregon-Alabama matchup in the National Championship.

Brando asserts that Oregon really is a team that Alabama should fear.  Although the team just had its worst defensive performance of the season, it probably isn’t something to worry too much about.

“Nick Aliotti’s done a really nice job with the defense in terms of just making them better – now I know they gave up 50-plus and a lot of big plays to Barkley and those two unbelievable receivers, but I think that’s more of an anomaly .”

Although Brando insists that Oregon is a team that other teams need to fear, he admits that there are a few things the Ducks need to do if they are to beat an elite SEC defense.

“They have to address the speed and quickness off the edge of the defensive end that you simply do not see in the Pac-12.  And in fact, you don’t see it anywhere except in the SEC.”

And finally Brando spoke about the elite Alabama team that he sees every week.  Although he admits they are strong at nearly every position, he believes the Tide does have at least one glaring weakness.

“I think it was exposed by LSU that they have some issues in terms of covering the intermediate pass – but only if you are able to effectively run the ball downhill.  You have got to get them to respect the run.”

Take a listen to one of the great voices in college football and be sure to look for Brando on CBS every college football Saturday.  Or listen to his radio show on the CBS Sports Network.
