Revolt-ing Waste
I call it revolting. At least four million taxpayer dollars from
the city of Portland, the state of Oregon and the federal government…wasted on
a battery company called “Revolt”.
I've been talking about this outfit since April of 2010. It seemed like a scam back then and the news
Friday that Revolt is headed for bankruptcy confirms it for me. Revolt has its
headquarters in Europe. But nearly three
years ago, disgraced congressman David Wu conned the congress out of five
million bucks for revolt which he bragged would create hundreds of jobs in
Oregon making high tech batteries for cars.
Senators Wyden and Merkley backed him up.
The truth is Revolt has never made a battery for
sale. The company’s own website admits
it plans to first make a hearing aid battery, then one for cell phones, someday
batteries for bicycles and way down the road batteries for electric cars. What the company was good at was raising tens
of millions from European governments and trying to get it from ours. it rented an office in Portland and hired 18
people.
Now the money’s gone and there
are still no batteries.
