Needing a win or tie against Seattle to clinch the Cascadia Cup, Portland falls flat on their face in a 3-0 loss to the Sounders.
In front of a crowd of 66,452 people at CenturyLink Stadium in Seattle, Portland entered the game looking for their first win in over a month. The Sounders also struggling of late, had only won one of their last five games.
After twenty-plus minutes of a standstill, Seattle struck first on a Portland own-goal in the 25th minute by Mamadou Danso.
It only took three minutes for Seattle to find the net again, this time off the foot of Eddie Johnson in the 28th minute.
Seattle would take their 2-0 lead into the half.
In the second half, now in front of a much more subdued crowd, the Sounders found the back of the net for a final time, this time in the 62nd minute by Fredy Montero.
With the 3-0 loss, Portland's Cascadia Cup hopes depend on defeating Vancouver later in the month.
