Angie Hernandez

Scene of the accident

An evening with family and friends turned tragic on Saturday in downtown Portland.  The group was being chauffeured for a Quinceanera celebration, which is a Latin birthday party for a girl turning 15.

11-year-old Angie Hernandez was leaning against an unlocked emergency window when the party bus made a turn at SW 1st and Harrison.  It swung open and she fell out.  Hernandez died at the scene from traumatic head injuries.  Loved ones waiting for the group's arrival were horrified by the news.

Investigators are looking into why the window was not secure.  The general manager of Five Star Limousine says nothing like this has ever happened before and that the driver's record is flawless.

Angie was in the 6th grade at Milwaukie's Rowe Middle School.  Her teachers say she was always helpful and loved to read.  Grief counselors are helping students and faculty get through this difficult time just weeks after school started.

Donations are being accepted through a memorial fund in her name at any Wells Fargo bank branch.
