The sky will be dark over Blue Lake Park this 4th of July.  The popular fireworks show has been canceled because of lack of funds and volunteers.  Paul Slyman, the director of parks and environmental services for METRO, says even though METRO contributed about $20,000 to the event, the actual fireworks show was organized and paid for by a volunteer group.  That group consisted of small businesses and other private donors.  But this year, the group couldn't attract enough interested businesses or volunteers, and just couldn't make the show happen.  Slyman hopes this will just be a one year hiatus and hopes volunteers will step up in the future.  Blue Lake Park will be open on the 4th during the day for swimming and picnicking.
