On Sunday, Lars and I will travel to Israel for a week.  I'll be doing special reports each day and he'll be broadcasting live from Jerusalem.   Each day we'll travel a different part of Israel and bring you a snapshot of life there.  We plan on sitting in on an Israeli Parliament session on our second day there.  We'll visit the Holocaust Museum and we'll see a number of other things as well.

What it takes to make all this happen is amazing to me.  We need to use so many different forms of technology and they must be portable too.  I must bring my laptop for Internet searches and to edit my stories.  I must have a special FTP site because I want to send videos of the interviews and scenery and I can only send about 17 seconds of video by email.  Lars needs an ISDN line to broadcast from and his own FTP site for long form interviews. I set up a Skype account because using my Verizon wireless phone from Israel will cost $1.99 a minute.  Texts will cost 50 cents each.  That will add up.

This doesn't even take into account the long flight to get there.  When you're on a plane for over 14 hours, you need some form of entertainment.  Books are fine, but tablets are better.  Then there's E-readers, DVD portable players, and Ipods.  Have I missed anything?

I just hope I have room left in my suitcase for a change of clothes on the trip.  Check out this blog for my updates of the trip along the way.
