THE LARS LARSON SHOW                         Honestly Provocative.

Lars LarsonLars got his start in radio at age 16 spinning records (remember 45s?) and reading news, sports and weather (twice an hour) on KTIL (The Mighty 1590) from a little cinderblock building on the edge of a cow pasture in Tillamook, Oregon (75 miles West of Portland, Oregon).

36 years later, he’s only moved 75 miles east to Portland and light years to “the Right”. Emmy and Peabody award winner Lars Larson brings nearly four decades of experience as a radio and television journalist to the microphone for six hours of the best talk radio in America. Six hours of daily prep keep The Lars Larson Show on top of the news and top-of-mind for listeners across the country.

Along the way, Lars has worked for more than a dozen radio stations and five television stations. Today, Lars holds down the fort from 12pm – 4pm on Radio Northwest flagship FM NEWS 101 KXL. His local talk show airs on seventeen stations in the Pacific Northwest (and earns him the biggest local talk radio audience in the region).

HEARD ON LARS LARSON

Humiliation Could Be The Best Defense

If you commit a crime that puts people at risk of death or serious injury, I figure your name should be in the story. So the whole time I've been in the news business it has bothered me that juvenile names are held back.  Consider the story you've been hearing about 17 year olds throwing rocks from an overpass, striking cars on the highway below.  You’re not hearing their names.  Yet they’re nearly adults and the crime they committed could have, but didn't, kill someone or send them to the hospital.  Oregon courts have upheld the release of juvenile criminal names and in many cases, it’s the cops and the journalists cooperating in keeping this secret.  Frankly, I think if kids saw and heard the names of their classmates in the news when they commit crimes, it would be some deterrent.  Instead, they see adults protecting the names of criminals.  What message does that send?  When I covered daily news, I always made a point of finding the name and including it.  protecting them from responsibility is the wrong think to do.

Billion Dollar Boondoggle Bites The Big One

Drive a stake through the heart of the Columbia River Crossing light rail bridge.  This nearly four billion dollar boondoggle has been a disaster all along.  And it has cost taxpayers nearly 150-million bucks without a single shovel of dirt turned. But now voters in Clark County have said no…just as they did a decade ago.  Voters in Clackamas county have sent a strong “no” in their votes this week and in September.

The Oregon and Washington legislatures still have not budgeted the nearly one billion the project will cost them.  The federal government has to pitch in a billion and they’re not exactly flush.  And tolling that was supposed to produce 1.3 billion of the cost won’t…according to a solid source like the state treasurer Ted Wheeler.  And documents from the project say tolls can go as high as eight bucks per trip. Now Congressman Jaime Herrera Beutler and state Senator Don Benton and seven others have signed a letter demanding they scrap the current design…and light rail…and essentially start over.

It’s about time!

Same Ol' Situation...

The same president and virtually the same old house and senate in Washington DC.  And now we’re up against the old problem of a government that spends a trillion bucks more than it takes in. This is not the time for conservatives to compromise on raising taxes.

Two big reasons for that.

First, raising taxes retards the economy. Ask any economist and he’ll tell you, “if you want less of something, tax it”. Second, Washington has a spending problem. Giving Harry Reid and Barry and Nancy more money is like giving Jack Daniels to a drunk. It might make him feel better for a while but in the end it just encourages him.

We will hit the government’s borrowing limit, again, of 16 trillion dollars before Christmas. And with the Marxist in office for another four years, we’re on track to hit 20 trillion in total debt by the end of his term.  Interest rates are low now…but if and when they pop up…well, at five percent, the interest on 20 trillion is a trillion dollars a year…about one third of the entire federal budget.

America Will Reap The "Benefits" of The Obama-Nation

America has made its decision.

It should be interesting to see the President and the congress try to head off the fiscal cliff that's coming at us like a freight train. The sequestration cuts are likely to throw a monkey wrench into the economy.

On top of that, agencies in the federal government were told to hold back new regulations (that would have damaged the President) until after the election. When they hit, with the costs they carry, be prepared for the cuts business must make to balance the bottom line.

In Oregon, voters decided to give the state more of corporation profits with the kicker vote, average homeowners now have higher taxes to pay on their property, half a billion dollars in new debt, and when you die, the government gets a good chunk of anything you've accumulated before it goes to your heirs. Pot got legalized...

Yesterday's election was a huge disappointment but the country made its choice and now we all have to live with the results.

Good Luck!

2012: A Voting Oddessy

Every four years, we hear the Presidential election described as “the most important in history” but this year I think its especially true.

If President Obama wins re-election here’s what I expect. At least two new liberal supreme court nominees who will change the composition of the court for the rest of my life.  That liberal court is likely to back the kind of government intrusion in our lives we've already seen, like ObamaCare.

Unless Romney wins tonight, we’re stuck with the kind of government dictated health care that kills people in Canada and Great Britain. Obama’s anti gun side from his Chicago days will likely come out full force in a second term when, to use his phrase, he will have more flexibility.  And we’ll likely see Iran get the bomb…and the middle east in further turmoil that threatens oil supplies and possibly a war.

I'd say this one ranks as the most important presidential election I've ever voted in…and I cast my vote this morning for Governor Mitt Romney who can set this country on the right course

Revenge: A Dish Best Served By Voters?

Voting for revenge.

What kind of person votes out of a revenge motive?

President Barack Obama, apparently.

On Friday he told a crowd who booed Governor Romney’s name “don’t boo. Vote.  Voting is the best revenge”.  And I sat there as I watched him say it and wondered “revenge for what”?  I vote because I love my country even when the result isn’t what I want. President Obama apparently sees a chance to strike back against those who have opposed his policies.

He declared his economic policies a success. He’s claimed credit for ending a war that President Bush actually ended. Obama threw millions of people out of work already with his policies on oil pipelines, drilling, environmental regulations, banking regulations and of course the Job Killing big daddy of them all…ObamaCare.

So now he’s appealing to his fans to vote to avenge him.  It fits right in with his redistributionist Marxism…get revenge on those Americans who had the temerity to challenge the Chosen One. The man who claimed four years ago he would heal the planet, stop the oceans from rising and work with conservatives.

Instead, he pushed middle east revolts that put the Muslim brotherhood in charge, left Americans murdered, he sold guns into a Mexican drug war, refused to do his job by producing a budget…all while vacationing and campaigning at a cost of nearly one and a half billion dollars a year. And now he wants revenge.

He can’t be gone fast enough...
