The
President got what he wanted. Higher
taxes on the rich. Enough money to run
the federal government for about five days.
We still have a federal deficit north of a trillion dollars, and the new
taxes will pay about five percent of that…if the bill didn't also contain about
30 billion dollars a year in new spending. And there’s the real problem.
Spending.
The Congressional
budget office says that this new plan adds about 300 billion dollars in new
spending over the next ten years. And
the President has promised…cross his heart…to cut spending sometime in the next
few months or years. Of course, he
promised four years ago to cut the deficit in half. Back then it was a trillion dollars a
year. It’s still a trillion
dollars. Social security and Medicare
are still insolvent. And the President
has given raises out to federal employees by executive order. Hollywood gets new bigger tax breaks. So does NASCAR. And Rum from Puerto
Rico. And two wheeled electric vehicles. And Asparagus farmers.
Oh, and by the way...When the President claims he didn't raise
your taxes…check your January 15th paycheck. Social security taxes on all workers go up
two percent…so if your family has income of 50-thousand a year, that’s a
thousand in higher taxes. If his lips
move…he’s lying.

Oregon’s lawmakers bought a real pig in a poke with
this deal. Governor Kitzhaber comes out
and asks for authority to strike a ten year deal for “tax certainty” by
Nike. Before anyone has a chance to
think about it, a special session of the legislature passes the thing. Now I like Nike and I hope they stay here
forever and create lots of new jobs. But
they’re a worldwide company and frankly that doesn’t seem likely. Then we find out that its not a ten year deal
for Nike…but a thirty year deal. and we
find out it’s not just one company…the
governor now has the right to pick winners and losers for tax certainty and the
deals can run out to as much as forty years.
The law seems to forbid making promises that must be kept by future
legislatures and decisions by voters.
And I fully expect that governor retread will ask the legislature to
approve a sales tax for Oregon, because goodness knows the government just
doesn’t have enough of your paycheck yet.
You wonder if there’s a Santa Claus?
Yep…and he lives in the Pearl and commutes to Salem every day.

You gotta love the government. Hundreds of thousands of laws regulate
everything you and I do every minute of every day. Then the President decides that illegal
aliens, who steal jobs and social services from taxpayers, should be given a
pass on those laws. He can’t get the
congress to do it so, wahlah…he signs an executive order. Now they’re legal. But Oregon couldn’t figure out what to do
with these illegals when they walk into DMV asking for a drivers license. So some offices refused and others did it
anyway. Last Friday the DMV announced it
would ALL refuse licenses to Obama’s Illegal’s.
This week, DMV changed its tiny collective mind and announced….well,
that they’re still talking about it.
Oregon Government ought to have its own reality show. “Honey Boo Boo” and “Buck Wild” have nothing
on Doctor Death and the Legislative Misfits.

We've heard a lot about the value of life this
week and how it can end in an instant.
So lets take a look at policies the leaders of Oregon embrace. Hundreds of criminals released from the
Multnomah county jail because of crowding while a perfectly good jail, worth
sixty million, sits empty. The governor
supports abortion on demand but refuses to allow state law to put convicted
killers to death. Oregon embraces death
through doctor assisted suicide…supported loudly by Doctor Death himself,
Governor Kitzhaber. When I read this
morning that Belgium is considering euthanasia for children, I wondered, how
long till Oregon follows suit. After
all, we let kids use marijuana. And now
we’re debating the proposal by state representative Dennis Richardson to arm
teachers. Why is there a debate. You
trust teachers with the lives of your kids doing a bunch of things that could
hurt or kill them if done wrong. Why not
trust them with a gun to guard the lives of your kids. Notice the pattern here. The President has
put “crazy Joe” Biden in charge of figuring out how to keep crazy people from
getting guns. O-K And if you trust Obama and company to set the rules for
protecting schools…I’d suggest you first consult the late U.S. Ambassador to
Libya, Chris Stevens. Ask him how well
they protected his life.

We've been sharing the road with Pot smokers for
some time. But now that Marijuana has
been legalized in Washington State, I guarantee there will be more. Last night in my Vancouver Neighborhood, one
of those pot heads hit and killed a pedestrian.
Ordinarily the dead man would be at fault, because he walked out into
traffic and not at a crosswalk. But the
police say that because the driver of the car was high on marijuana, he’s
legally at fault. They think this is the
first Pot related fatality since legalization.
Here’s the way I figure it.
People smoke the drug, but now that it’s legal more will join them. And it’s going to be harder to prosecute
marijuana intoxication. With a
breathalyzer you can measure blood alcohol closely. But Pot stays in your blood for days and when
cases come to court, you’re going to see defense attorneys argue that the
smoker wasn’t tokin’ the day he drove.
So people heading out to party will quickly figure out that inhaling
means less chance of prosecution than imbibing.
And all that stuff about pot heads being safer drivers…try telling that
to the man killed by Scotty Rowles last night.

Jesus Christ once advised his disciples to buy
swords even if they had to sell something to do it. Jesus understood the need for self defense
from bad guys. Our society seems to have
forgotten on that lesson. Let’s consider
some facts. Crazy people do insane
things and that’s been true throughout human history. Last week, one crazy person murdered people
at a shopping mall. Later in the week,
another crazy person murdered children and teachers in Connecticut. Both shootings stopped when men with guns
showed up. At the Mall, a private
citizen named Nick Meli pulled out a pistol and the killer stopped shooting,
ran off and took his own life. In
Newtown, the killer slaughtered with impunity until he could hear sirens outside
and then ended his own miserable life.
All you have to ask is…what would have happened if the men and women
with guns were already inside the school or the mall when the killer showed up. It’s not a cure all. And by the way…the mall shooter stole his gun
and the school shooter had a gun that’s illegal to buy in that state. Those laws didn't work. Both places were “gun free zones”. When the insane decide to kill, their target
of choice is always a “gun free zone”.
If you want safety, zones and bans are not the answer.
