Lars got his start in radio at age 16 spinning records (remember 45s?) and reading news, sports and weather (twice an hour) on KTIL (The Mighty 1590) from a little cinderblock building on the edge of a cow pasture in Tillamook, Oregon (75 miles West of Portland, Oregon).
36 years later, he’s only moved 75 miles east to Portland and light years to “the Right”. Emmy and Peabody award winner Lars Larson brings nearly four decades of experience as a radio and television journalist to the microphone for six hours of the best talk radio in America. Six hours of daily prep keep The Lars Larson Show on top of the news and top-of-mind for listeners across the country.
Along the way, Lars has worked for more than a dozen radio stations and five television stations. Today, Lars holds down the fort from 12pm – 4pm on Radio Northwest flagship FM NEWS 101 KXL. His local talk show airs on seventeen stations in the Pacific Northwest (and earns him the biggest local talk radio audience in the region).

McConell: IRS Scandal "Blatant, Thuggish Abuse Of Power"A government watchdog is blaming ineffective
management at the Internal Revenue Service for allowing agents to improperly
target tea party groups for extra scrutiny when they applied for tax exempt
status. In an upcoming report, the Treasury inspector general for tax
administration says lax management allowed the practice to go on for 18 months.
The Associated Press obtained a copy of the report ahead of its release. The
IRS on Friday apologized for targeting tea party as well as other conservative
groups. The report said that when asked by investigators, IRS supervisors said
the criteria they used to decide which groups they examined were not influenced
by people or organizations outside the IRS. In addition to this information, Senator Mitch McConnell blasted the IRS, calling their targeting on conservative organizations a "blatant and thuggish abuse of power." Senator McConnell joined me today on the show, and he was on fire! |
Illegal Government Gun ShowThis weekend, Cease Fire Oregon had a gun buyback in Portland. There were more than 25 guns present and available for transfer, but there was no FFL licensed dealer present, and there were no background checks being performed. A citizen journalist confronted the people running the buyback, the Mayor of Portland, and others about the fact that they were committing a class A misdemeanor. Their argument is that since the guns were being destroyed, they were not being transferred. According to the state statute, that is not the case. Our legal expert Bruce McCain joined me on the program today, and he agrees that it was technically illegal to run the buyback the way that they did... |
Keep Your Eyes on ClevelandThe whole country is watching what’s happening in
Cleveland with the rescue of three women, kidnapped, raped and beaten…and
Oregon should be watching too. The
Buckeye state does something that Oregon doesn’t. It protects unborn
babies. And the rescued women say one of
them was raped…then beaten till five of her unborn babies died. In Ohio that’s aggravated murder. In Oregon it’s….nothing. If a pregnant woman in Oregon is beaten till
her baby dies it’s an assault on the woman…but the death of the baby isn’t
murder. I know we’re stuck with Dr Death
as Governor. The Governor likes doctor
assisted suicide and abortion…killing the defenseless. But he’s dead set against the death
penalty…killing the guilty. If you can
make sense of that I’m betting you voted for Doc Death and the Bungler of
Benghazi. But I guess in a very twisted,
weird, Democrat Party way it makes sense.
Unborn babies don’t vote. But I’ll bet if they did, they’d vote pro-life…and
I think Oregon should too. Let’s put the
death penalty in the law to protect victims of the kind of crimes Cleveland
found out about this week. |
OT or PTO?There are times when the boss tells you that you're going to have to work some overtime. They're required by law to pay you overtime pay, which is usually time and a half. There have been times where my co-workers have said that they'd rather have time off. If you work in the public sector this may already be a choice. But it could soon be coming to the private sector. Here's a great rundown of the bill from our friends at the Richmond Times Dispatch: A measure that would allow employees in the
private sector to take paid time off, or “comp time,” for overtime accrued is
slated for a vote this afternoon in the U.S. House of Representatives. The
bill, part of a package of legislation that House Majority Leader Eric Cantor
has been promoting, would leave it up to employees to choose whether to take
paid overtime or comp time. Under the measure, comp time would be accrued at
the same rate as overtime pay – time and a half over 40 hours. Employees would
have to enter an agreement with their employer to seek comp time, but the
employee can withdraw from the pact at any time and take the wages in cash.
Proponents say it would bring the private sector in line with public sector
employees, who can take comp time outside of the pay period in which it was
accrued. For example, a public sector employee who accrues 20 hours of overtime
in May can, under law, arrange with their employer plan to take it in another
month. Cantor and other proponents say the bill, dubbed the Working Families
Flexibility Act, would help workers better balance family and work. “It’s very
simple,” Cantor said. “If you’re a working parent, as I am, you know one thing
all of us have in common and that is we need more time. That’s what this bill
will allow. It is a common-sense bill and it puts parents before politics.” But
opponents of the bill note that workers can only use the comp time if it would not
“unduly disrupt” business operations. The National Partnership for Women
and Families said that despite the name, the act sets up “a dangerous false
choice between time and money, when working families really need both.” The
group says lawmakers should focus on public policies to make sure workers have
fair wages and time to care for their families. I think it's a fantastic idea to put this type of choice in the hands of the employer and the employee. You can take the overtime pay, but if you want to take a day off, it's your choice.

Will The American People Call B.O. On His B.S.?On the day after the Benghazi attacks, the President told the United States; he told 60 Minutes on CBS that it wasn't a terrorist attack. He even went out of his way to say it wasn't an act of terrorism. But now, because of a memo produced by Congressman Trey Gowdy in the hearings on Benghazi eight months later, we know that the State Department knew it was an act of terrorism. They knew it so well that, in the memo, it says that they called the President of Libya to tell him that it was an act of terrorism! So if the State Department knew... ...and the intelligence agencies knew... Then why was the President insisting that it wasn't an act of terrorism that took the life of those four Americans? I'm just waiting for one of the reporters with Presidential access to ask that question...
