THE LARS LARSON SHOW                         Honestly Provocative.

Lars LarsonLars got his start in radio at age 16 spinning records (remember 45s?) and reading news, sports and weather (twice an hour) on KTIL (The Mighty 1590) from a little cinderblock building on the edge of a cow pasture in Tillamook, Oregon (75 miles West of Portland, Oregon).

36 years later, he’s only moved 75 miles east to Portland and light years to “the Right”. Emmy and Peabody award winner Lars Larson brings nearly four decades of experience as a radio and television journalist to the microphone for six hours of the best talk radio in America. Six hours of daily prep keep The Lars Larson Show on top of the news and top-of-mind for listeners across the country.

Along the way, Lars has worked for more than a dozen radio stations and five television stations. Today, Lars holds down the fort from 12pm – 4pm on Radio Northwest flagship FM NEWS 101 KXL. His local talk show airs on seventeen stations in the Pacific Northwest (and earns him the biggest local talk radio audience in the region).

HEARD ON LARS LARSON

Are white men to blame for America’s mass shootings?

When you think about the things that might cause someone to commit a mass shooting, what might come to mind?

Maybe someone who had a tough childhood, or someone who has a history of mental health issues, or maybe in some cases (although I feel like the proof isn't there) someone who decided to act out their favorite scene from Grand Theft Auto.

But would you ever think that white men as a race were responsible for the mass shootings in America? Two sisters from Oregon penned a piece for the Washington Post and are claiming just that. The sisters hold eight different college degrees between the two of them. Although holding college degrees does not necessarily matter in all circumstances. Here is an excerpt from their article:

Unlike other groups, white men are not used to being singled out. So we expect that many of them will protest it is unfair if we talk about them. But our nation must correctly define their contribution to our problem of gun violence if it is to be solved. When white men try to divert attention from gun control by talking about mental health issues, many people buy into the idea that the United States has a national mental health problem, or flawed systems with which to address those problems, and they think that is what produces mass shootings. But women and girls with mental health issues are not picking up semiautomatic weapons and shooting schoolchildren. Immigrants with mental health issues are not committing mass shootings in malls and movie theaters. Latinos with mental health issues are not continually killing groups of strangers. Each of us is programmed from childhood to believe that the top group of our hierarchies — and in the U.S. culture, that’s white men — represents everyone, so it can feel awkward, even ridiculous, when we try to call attention to those people as a distinct group and hold them accountable.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the shooter at Virginia Tech of Asian ethnicity? Eduardo Sencion, the man behind an attack at a Carson City, NV IHOP that killed 5 and wounded 7, is hispanic. Nidal Hassan, the man behind the murders at Fort Hood in Texas is Palestinian.

I could list more, but I think that would be unnecessary. That also doesn't take away from the fact that a lot of white men did commit mass shootings.

But I think the sisters are missing the point.

Most mass shootings have been committed by people with mental health issues, who showed signs of being unstable prior to the shootings.

We have a mental health issue in America. Not a gun control issue.

I invited the sisters to come on the show and chat with me about their piece and defend their theory. But as we've come to expect with most liberals, they declined.

I think declining an opportunity to prove your point to someone with opposing views says all we need to know about your ability to properly defend your argument.

Make The Illegals Work For It!

We've been talking for weeks about the coming proposals on immigration reform. We even talked to Senator Jeff Sessions from Alabama about a bill that he says is being worked on in secret, and there is a danger that it could be passed like ObamaCare; before anyone knows what is in it.

We're also finding out that there is a big debate over what measures these illegals should have to take to obtain their coveted American citizenship. Here's how Politico has it:

It’s not the inclusion of a pathway to citizenship that has immigration reform proponents worried — at this point, it’s clear that this will be part of any deal Senate negotiators produce. It’s how difficult they choose to make it. The prospects of a bipartisan immigration deal improved dramatically with the weekend announcement of an agreement between labor and business on a visa program for low-skilled workers. But the real test will come after the Senate’s Gang of Eight reveals the fine print of the entire reform package next week. Nowhere is that more true than on the pathway to citizenship. “The sleeper issue in immigration reform is, do all 11 million people qualify for legal status or is it a fraction?” said Deepak Bhargava, executive director of the Center for Community Change, a pro-reform group. “This issue is the potential deal-breaker in the whole mix. If the requirements are so onerous that only a fraction of eligible people can actually adjust their status and get legal, there will be a hugely negative reaction to the bill in the immigrant community.” The Gang of Eight has sought to make the pathway tough enough so that Republicans can convince their party that it’s not amnesty — but not so onerous that they lose support from the left, and risk repeating mistakes from past reform efforts. Democrats are under intense pressure from the White House, labor unions and immigrant advocates to craft as clear of a path as possible to legal status and citizenship. That means no border-security benchmarks that must be met before undocumented immigrants can secure citizenship. No exorbitant fines and fees. And realistic requirements for proving work history, learning English and passing criminal background checks.

Shouldn't they have to work to obtain what is essentially a government handout giving them citizenship?

I talked with Kevin Cirilli from Politico today about the proposal...

We Haven't Forgotten About Sandy Hook

No Mr. President we haven’t forgotten about the Sandy Hook murders of school children.  But you appear to have forgotten that we don’t believe everything or even most of what you say.  You demand some kind of action.  You send your nit wit vice president out to write a gun confiscation plan.  The same vice president who tells his wife to shoot people through the door of his home and fire warning shots off a balcony.  Yes, that Joe Biden.  And he whips up a plan in thirty days that turns law abiding citizens into criminals and doesn't stop the lunatics from murdering school children.  And now you have the gaul to accuse us of forgetting Sandy Hook?  How dare you.  You, who let four Americans die in Benghazi because it would have been bad politics to let them have a security team.  You, who sent thousands of gun into a Mexican drug war.  You, who sends fighter jets and tanks to your buddies, the Muslim brotherhood in Egypt.  Now you call shame on us because we won’t disarm?  For the past five years, you, Mr. President, have inspired the purchase of millions of firearms from Americans who fear their government and fear what you’re doing to our country.  Lay down our arms? Not a chance...

Would You Vote For A Former Convict To Represent You In Congress

Would you consider voting for an ex-con to represent your congressional district in Washington D.C.? Paul McKinley is hoping you'll vote for him because of his vision for the future, rather than the mistakes of his past.

McKinley has paid his debt to society and, since being released from prison, has dedicated his life to helping other former convicts make new lives for themselves.

I've heard a lot of people say that the best drug an alcohol counselors are former addicts. Maybe that applies here as well.

McKinley says that he isn't running against a candidate, but he is running against what he calls the "Chicago Machine," which he says has been corrupting the city for decades.

I asked him about gun control, illegal immigration, and a host of other issues. Do you think a man like Paul McKinley could make waves of change in Washington?

Get Government Out Of Marriage!

The Supreme Court is in the second day of hearings on gay marriage. There are some people, even conservatives, who say that gay marriage is imminent.

I've been saying this for 16 years: WE NEED TO GET GOVERNMENT OUT OF MARRIAGE!

There is no reason for the government to regulate the most intimate relationship you have in your life. There is no reason for a citizen to have to ask the government for permission to get married.

Think about it this way; in almost any other relationship you have, you don't have to ask the government's permission to get into that relationship. People like your doctor, your accountant, and your mechanic. And you don't have to ask the government's permission to get out.

But with marriage, the government says you must ask us for permission, and we will grant it...if we decide that you meet the criteria. And if you want a divorce, you, again, have to ask for the government's permission.

Why would freedom and liberty loving Americans give up that freedom? Remember, this is not something granted by the government.

Marriage is an individual right, and if you let the government tell you when you can do it, how you can do it, and when you can get out of it...then you have given up a big part of your personal liberty on the most personal relationship you can possibly have.

Justice Could Be Knox-ing At The Door

Amanda Knox is going to be retried for murder in Italy, and I think it's a great move. In my eyes she's guilty based on the evidence that was given by the prosecution.

The problem is that Americans love to fall in love with stories like this. They love to be riveted. The media loves the story of the attractive young defendant and the mystery and intrigue that goes along with it, which can lead to a skewed view of what is actually going on.

Legal Analyst Wendy Murphy says that if you just look at all the evidence, it's a fairly open and shut case...
