Lars LarsonLars got his start in radio at age 16 spinning records (remember 45s?) and reading news, sports and weather (twice an hour) on KTIL (The Mighty 1590) from a little cinderblock building on the edge of a cow pasture in Tillamook, Oregon (75 miles West of Portland, Oregon).

 

36 years later, he’s only moved 75 miles east to Portland and light years to “the Right”. Emmy and Peabody award winner Lars Larson brings nearly four decades of experience as a radio and television journalist to the microphone for six hours of the best talk radio in America. Six hours of daily prep keep The Lars Larson Show on top of the news and top-of-mind for listeners across the country.

For Cops, There's Usually No Chance To Second Guess


So the U.S. Justice Department faults Police in Portland for using too much force on folks with mental problems? Let me deconstruct this. 

When the police are dealing with dangerous, sometimes armed, sometimes drugged or drunk folks that present a hazard to public safety, they don’t have time to diagnose mental illness. Nor should they make special exceptions.  

Every threat to public safety should be treated the same: Stop it as quickly as possible. Of course they should use the least force they can. But I figure we’re going to get deadly policy decisions out of city hall, and I mean that literally.  

They’ll tell police to second guess decisions, to hesitate, to use less force than officers have been trained to use. And sometime soon, a citizen or a cop will die as a result.  The civil libertarians have insisted that you have a right to be as crazy as you wanna be till you present a danger to others.  

That standard and the widespread use of illegal drugs means society will be presented with these threats on a regular and growing basis.  And the lawyers will make lots of money convincing juries to Monday morning quarterback the cops...

Excuses Ring Loud In Embassy Attacks...


You’re going to hear it a thousand times this week if you’re paying attention to the news…violence in Libya inspired by a low budget American movie.  And I’ve even heard a fox news radio report that raised the question of why when this movie is so offensive to so many Muslims that no one has been charged with a crime? 

This echoes the ridiculous statement by President Obama yesterday that our government rejects speech that denigrates anyone’s religion. The government is out of line to criticize or try to chill ANY speech in this country. Its’ forbidden by the first amendment.  And it echoes the promise by our embassy in Egypt to condem speech that hurts the religious feelings of Muslims.  

That’s buying right into Sharia law which many muslims would like to see here in America…the kind of law that put one talk show host on trial on Canada for his critical comments about Islam.  And we’re foolish to buy into the “the movie made me do it” argument in defense of violence. 

We know where its coming from…Radical, militant Islam.  Not every Muslim is a terrorist or a terrorist supporter…but the majority of the acts of terror over the past half century have been committed by Muslims in the name of their religion.

Insulting Muslims? BAD AMERICANS!


Say a prayer for the family of our U.S. ambassador Chris Stevens after his murder in Libya.  And say a prayer for our country, led by Barack Obama…whose misguided foreign policy pushed revolt in Libya and Egypt…and now we can see the results.  

The terrorist supporting Muslim Brotherhood in charge in Egypt…attacks on U.S. embassys yesterday which are acts of war. They burned our flag, stormed our embassies, murdered an Ambassador.. And most important to all of us, the Obama State department APOLOGIZING for free speech in America that the Obama Administration says may have incited the violence, and a condemnation of American free speech that quote “hurts the religious feelings of” Muslims.  

This is the Sharia law that’s coming to America thanks to Obama…he may not BE a Muslim but he’s so Muslim friendly that who could tell the difference. Be prepared to give up your first amendment rights under this President when they criminalize any speech critical of our peaceful Muslim friends as the United Nations has been demanding.

In Remembrance Of Those Lost 11 Years Ago


Today we mark the 11th anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks. In remembrance of those who lost so much, and the heroes who sacrificed more than most of us will ever know to save the lives of so many, I thought it would be nice to post a speech from our former commander-in-chief, George W. Bush, from right after the attacks.

"On September the eleventh, enemies of freedom committed an act of war against our country. Americans have known wars but for the past 136 years, they have been wars on foreign soil, except for one Sunday in 1941.  Americans have known the casualties of war but not at the center of a great city on a peaceful morning. Americans have known surprise attacks but never before on thousands of civilians. All of this was brought upon us in a single day and night fell on a different world, a world where freedom itself is under attack....  

We are not deceived by their pretenses to piety. We have seen their kind before. They are the heirs of all the murderous ideologies of the 20th century. By sacrificing human life to serve their radical visions - by abandoning every value except the will to power - they follow in the path of fascism, and Nazism, and totalitarianism. And they will follow that path all the way, to where it ends: in history's unmarked grave of discarded lies.... 

The course of this conflict is not known, yet its outcome is certain. Freedom and fear, justice and cruelty, have always been at war, and we know that God is not neutral between them.  This is not, however, just America's fight. And what is at stake is not just America's freedom. This is the world's fight. This is civilization's fight. This is the fight of all who believe in progress and pluralism, tolerance and freedom....

Great harm has been done to us. We have suffered great loss. And in our grief and anger we have found our mission and our moment. Freedom and fear are at war. The advance of human freedom - the great achievement of our time, and the great hope of every time - now depends on us. Our nation - this generation - will lift a dark threat of violence from our people and our future. We will rally the world to this cause, by our efforts and by our courage. We will not tire, we will not falter, and we will not fail... I will not forget this wound to our country, or those who inflicted it. I will not yield - I will not rest - I will not relent in waging this struggle for the freedom and security of the American people."

Please say a prayer for those who have lost their lives, for those who were hurt, for those who helped save lives, and for those who continue to save lives and protect our American rights and freedoms.

We Have A Constitution...That's News To China.


Down in Corvallis, the Chinese government is asking the city to silence one of it's residents.

The best part, is that Corvallis is standing behind it's resident.

Here is an excerpt from the Corvallis Gazette-Times:

Citing “strong resentment from the local Chinese community,” the Chinese government has asked the city of Corvallis to force a Taiwanese-American businessman to remove a mural advocating independence for Taiwan and Tibet from his downtown building.

But city leaders say the mural violates no laws and its political message is protected under the U.S. Constitution.

Taiwanese artist Chao Tsung-song painted the 10-foot-by-100-foot mural last month on the side of the old Corvallis MicroTechnology building at Southwest Fourth Street and Jefferson Avenue. The work was commissioned by property owner David Lin, who is renovating the space for a restaurant and has rechristened the building Tibet House.

In vivid colors, the painting depicts riot police beating Tibetan demonstrators, Buddhist monks setting themselves on fire to protest Chinese rule and images of Taiwan as a bulwark of freedom.

In a letter dated Aug. 8, the Chinese Consulate General in San Francisco formally complained to Corvallis Mayor Julie Manning about the mural’s content and asked for her help in having it removed.

“There is only one China in the world,” the letter reads in part, “and both Tibet and Taiwan are parts of China.”

China invaded Tibet in 1950 and has repeatedly stated its claim to the island of Taiwan. Beijing considers both countries breakaway provinces.

The letter goes on to note the strong economic and cultural ties between China and Oregon and suggests that Corvallis would benefit from cooperating with the consulate’s request.

“To avoid our precious friendship from being tainted by so-called ‘Tibet independence’ and ‘Taiwan independence,’ we sincerely hope you can understand our concerns and adopt effective measures to stop the activities advocating ‘Tibet independence’ and ‘Taiwan independence’ in Corvallis,” the letter states.

In a response dated Aug. 20, Manning expressed regret that the mural had caused concern but noted that local government has no authority to regulate art.

“As you are aware,” Manning’s letter reads, ‘the First Amendment of the United States’ Constitution guarantees freedom of speech in this country, and this includes freedom of artistic expression.”

I can't say enough about what the city of Corvallis is doing. Standing behind your residents, and our constitution, even in the face of threats from one of the world's biggest governments, is exactly what we should expect here in America.

Anyone Know A Low Risk Murderer? Because I Don't...


Would you consider a murderer a low risk inmate?

What about a rapist?

Keep this in mind as I explain this. Oregon is considering a plan to release inmates that they consider "low risk," in order to save the corrections department some money.

Now you may be asking yourself, how do they determine who is low risk, and who isn't? 

The answer isn't that simple. I had a chance to talk with John Foote, Clackamas County District Attorney, about this situation, and some of the surprising people that make the low risk list...
