NWS: Winter Weather Advisory; Roads Icy/School Closings

Portland, Oregon – The National Weather Service has a Winter Weather Advisory in place for the Portland Metro area until Saturday morning. Many roads and some freeways are icy and very dangerous, already several crashes reported Friday morning because of ice.

* TIMING...THROUGH MID AFTERNOON FOR MOST OF THE PORTLAND AND
  VANCOUVER METRO. AREAS NEAR THE MOUTH OF THE COLUMBIA RIVER
  GORGE INCLUDING GRESHAM AND TROUTDALE WILL EXPERIENCE FREEZING
  RAIN LIKELY INTO AT LEAST THIS EVENING.

* ICE ACCUMULATIONS...A TENTH TO A QUARTER OF AN INCH. LOCALLY
  HIGHER AMOUNTS ARE POSSIBLE NEAR THE GORGE AROUND GRESHAM
  AND TROUTDALE.

* IMPACTS...MANY SECONDARY ROADS REMAIN ICE COVERED NEAR THE MOUTH
  OF THE COLUMBIA RIVER GORGE...BUT PATCHES OF ICE EXIST ELSEWHERE
  IN THE PORTLAND METRO AREA. PLEASE USE CAUTION WHEN TRAVELING
  THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING AND BE PREPARED FOR ABRUPT CHANGES IN
  ROAD CONDITIONS OVER SHORT DISTANCES.
