Man Caught After Running and Firing Shots At Cops

SALEM, Ore.– A suspect is in custody after fleeing from a stolen vehicle, firing shots at police and breaking into an occupied home.  The incident began about 3:23 when a Salem Police officer stopped a stolen vehicle near the intersection of Beverly NE and Phipps Ln NE. The male driver fled on foot, and officer heard what sounded like gunshots as the suspect fled.  Police chased after him.

Shortly after that a nearby homeowner called 9-1-1 to report someone had broken into their residence.  The occupants of the home got out safely.  The police surrounded the area and got the suspect to surrender after calling out to him several times.
