Lars got his start in radio at age 16 spinning records (remember 45s?) and reading news, sports and weather (twice an hour) on KTIL (The Mighty 1590) from a little cinderblock building on the edge of a cow pasture in Tillamook, Oregon (75 miles West of Portland, Oregon).
36 years later, he’s only moved 75 miles east to Portland and light years to “the Right”. Emmy and Peabody award winner Lars Larson brings nearly four decades of experience as a radio and television journalist to the microphone for six hours of the best talk radio in America. Six hours of daily prep keep The Lars Larson Show on top of the news and top-of-mind for listeners across the country.
Along the way, Lars has worked for more than a dozen radio stations and five television stations. Today, Lars holds down the fort from 12pm – 4pm on Radio Northwest flagship FM NEWS 101 KXL. His local talk show airs on seventeen stations in the Pacific Northwest (and earns him the biggest local talk radio audience in the region).
But after swearing to tell the truth, the star witness of the hearings said this:
As director, I'm responsible for about 900 employees nationwide and administering a budget of almost $100 million. My professional career has been devoted to fulfilling responsibilities of the agencies for which I have worked, and I am very proud of the work that I have done in government. On May 14, the Treasury Inspector-General released a report finding that the exempt organizations field office in Cincinnati, Ohio used inappropriate criteria to identify for further review applications from orgs that planned to engage in political activity, which may mean that they did not qualify for tax exemption. On that same day, the dept of justice launched an investigation into the matters described in the inspector-general's report. In addition, members of this committee have accused me of providing false information when I responded to questions about the IRS processing of applications for tax exemption. I have not done anything wrong. I have not broken any laws. I have not violated any IRS rules or regulations, and I have not provided false information to this or any other congressional committee. And while I would very much like to answer the committee's questions today, I've been advised by my counsel to assert my constitutional right not to testify or answer questions related to the subject matter of this hearing.
Lois Lerner takes the fifth amendment...I feel like that says that, not only does she know something, she knows that what she knows could have a negative effect on her freedom...
Law Professor Tung Yin joined me on the program today to talk about her decision not to testify...
What do you think causes that?
According to Dr. Laurie Johnson from the National Resources Defense Council, greenhouse gases are to blame.
Yep...that's right. She's blaming GLOBAL WARMING!
Dr. Johnson came on the show today to talk about a number of things concerning climate change...I love sparring with greenies!
The truth on the matter appears to be different...and disturbing.
Here is an excerpt from our good friend Wesley Smith from National Review:
Now that human cloning is upon us, look for many scientists and their camp followers (or ignorant reporters) to mislead about what the technology entails. Human SCNT creates human embryos through asexual means. It does not create stem cells. To obtain cloned stem cells, the embryos have to be nurtured and maintained in a dish for about 10 days, destroyed, and the stem cell lines derived. But don’t look for the embryo part to make many stories. Early case in point, a story by Loren Grush on FNC: In a major medical breakthrough, researchers at the Oregon National Primate Research Center (ONPRC) have for the first time ever successfully converted human skin cells into embryonic stem cells–via a technique called nuclear transfer. The research has major implications for the future of medical treatments, as many believe embryonic stem cells are the key to treating damaged cells lost through injury or illness. According to various medical researchers, stem cell therapy has the potential to treat anything from heart disease and spinal cord injuries to major neurological diseases, like Parkinson’s disease and multiple sclerosis. Through a common laboratory method known as somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT), ONPRC scientists, along with researchers at Oregon Health & Science University, essentially swapped the genetic codes of an unfertilized egg and a human skin cell to create their new embryonic stem cells…The combination of the egg’s cytoplasm and the skin cell’s nucleus eventually grows and develops into the embryonic stem cell. False! Repeat after me: The unfertilized egg is not turned into stem cells. Rather, in the same cloning process as resulted in Dolly the sheep, it becomes an embryo, which is destroyed to obtain the cells. Moreover, the process is hardly common. In fact, this is the first time SCNT has worked in humans. That’s why it’s a big story! The human cloning issue is going to be a Mt. Everest of ethical contention. If we are going to discuss this rationally, we need accurate information from the scientists and the media. I plan to hold both to account in this regard going forward.
Wesley was kind enough to join us on the program today to explain in greater detail...
Mind if we talk about sometime that stinks? By that I mean Portland’s Patented Public Toilet…brainchild of former city commissioner Randy Leonard. Now mind you, when I say it stinks I should mention that it gets cleaned plenty…to the tune of 14-hundred dollars a month. And there are a bunch of them, so the taxpayers are paying about 90-thousand dollars a year for that service. But when you’re camping on downtown streets, sponging for spare change, waiting for your next drug customer or fix…the call of nature can lead to nasty results. Willamette week reporter aaron mesh has the whole sordid septic story in this week’s edition. It details how the program was intended to be self funding because the city owns the patent to the public toilet. At least one person who regularly deals with patents tells me the thing isn’t worth much…because its nothing unique…and that’s what it takes to be a patented toilet. Leonard assumed the city could sell its unique idea to other cities and recoup the 600-thousand dollars in public water bureau money it cost…but so far no takers. Not a problem for leonard now…he’s off enjoying his two public pensions in retirement…and you and I are stuck with the bill
But I keep running into the same problem. No one can put the importance of mining into simple terms that normal folks understand, and do it with passion.
But today, I think we may have found the man who can be the mouthpiece for these chosen few...
His name is Ron, and he joined me today. What do you think?
Is the IRS going to serve as President Obama’s “speech police”? A powerful government agency targeting groups for their political beliefs.
John Boehner asked this morning “who’s going to jail for this”. It wasn't just a rogue office in one city, but many IRS offices around the country. IRS demanded extra proof of tea party groups.
Today we learned that a group of Democrat Party Senators, including Oregon’s Jeff Merkley and comedian Al Franken, sent a letter during the election run up, demanding that the IRS give extra scrutiny to political groups…and I don’t think they meant Media Matters.
The President’s half brother, Abongo Obama runs a shady charity that has built a Madrassa. It claimed tax exempt status it didn't have for a couple of years. Then Lois Lerner, the woman who is at the center of the Tea Party Investigation scandal, managed to secure tax exempt status for Abongo Obama in less than a month. Remember this is the same agency that will play enforcer on ObamaCare when it kicks in January 1.
As for the President…he’s playing Sgt Schultz…he knows nothing.
