Drug Deal Leads to Attempted Robbery and Assault

SHERIDAN, Ore. – Two men tried to rob and beat up another man during a heroin deal.

Yamhill County Deputies say 26-year-old Jacob Sones and 27-year-old Mark Chaney had met the victim at a local tavern where they agreed to sell him heroin.  All three men then left the tavern and went to a home on NW Yamhill Street to finish the drug deal.

It was in the backyard where Sones and Chaney allegedly tried to rob the man of his money.

Sones and Chaney blocked the man from leaving, and took him to the ground, punching and choking him.

The victim called for help and was eventually heard by neighbors who called 911.

Chaney is in the Yamhill County Jail on charges of Robbery in the Second Degree, Assault 3, Strangulation, and Possession of a Restricted Weapon by a Felon.

Sones is also lodged in jail on charges of Robbery in the Second Degree, Assault 3 and Possession of Heroin.

Both men have a current bail listed at $167,500.
