22-year-old Swimmer Drowns at Meldrum Bar Park in Gladstone

GLADSTONE, Ore. (KXL) — A 22-year-old swimmer who was pulled out of the water where the Clackamas and Willamette Rivers come together has passed away.

River rescue teams were called out to Meldrum Bar Park Tuesday with a report of a swimmer going under.  They were actually able to recover the man and administer CPR, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.  The water where they recovered him was 6′ 8″ deep.  He was reportedly trying to cross the Clackamas River from Clackamette Park to Dahl Beach, but couldn’t make it.  Family members tried to help.  Crews arrived about 15 minutes later.
