Bobby Bowden is the winningest coach in the history of college football and has coached his teams to forty winning seasons. He joined Chad on Flight 750 Friday to discuss the Tostitos Homecoming party and to talk about the ways that both the college game and the pro game have transformed.Bowden began by talking about the evolution of the quarterback position in the NFL.
“It’s really changed ain’t it, and it started in college. You know, usually colleges copy pros and high schools copy colleges. But now you’ve got the colleges coming up with this quarterback that can run and throw the football and it’s slipping into the pros.”
Bowden also discussed the incredible coaching job Bill Snyder has done at Kansas State.
“He is remarkable. Number one, you would think Kansas would be stronger than Kansas State…But Kansas State is running. Also, there’s not a whole lot of players in Kansas, so he’s got to go all over to get players and it’s just amazing the job he’s done. The thing that stamps him as a great coach is he did it before, then got out and they went down. Then he comes back up, and they go up. It just tells me it’s him.”
Finally, Bowden discussed the Oregon Ducks and their impressive style of play.
“I don’t know of another team in the country that can compare to it. I mean a lot of people are trying to compare to it. A lot of people are copying and doing the same thing. But I don’t know if anybody does it as well as they do it. I think their success will come if their defense can get it done. Because I think their offense might be a step above about everyone else.”
