The Oregon State Beavers have rebounded from a poor 2011-2012 season to qualify for the Alamo Bowl in which they will face off against the Texas Longhorns. Beavers head coach Mike Riley joined John Canzano on The Bald Faced Truth to talk about the matchup and the successful season.
Coaching can be like parenting and a coach can bring a team together and create a family atmosphere. Coach Riley talked about how coaching is like parenting.
"I always say that with a blink of an eye you can change your life with a bad decision. That is over and over again and I equate it to parenting. I tell parents you've spent that young man's whole life teaching him to make good choices and we'll never be their parents on this team but we hope we have values on this program."
A tragic shooting event happened at Clackamas Town Center Mall yesterday where 2 people and the gunman lost their lives and left a city trying to find out why such an event happened.
"I flash back to Springfield OR, Columbine, Virginia Tech I mean I immediately think of stuff like that and it's hard to wrap my arms around Oregon and it happens right here at home and it is absolutely tragic, I can't even imagine being close to anything like that."
Coach Riley and John talk about the matchup with Texas in the Alamo Bowl and what the game means to the team.
