NW Parking Issue Dominates Portland City Council Meeting

Thursday's Portland City Council meeting turned into a marathon with the issue of charging for parking in Northwest Portland dominating the conversation.

Portland Mayor Sam Adams proposed the plan and wants to get it done before he leaves office at the end of the year. 

The plan affects parking from I-405 to the West Hills and West Burnside to Vaughn Street. Visitors would plug meters along 21st and 23rd Avenues. Some areas would have free parking with time limits of 90 minutes in some areas or three hours in others.

Those who live and work around there would be able to buy monthly parking passes for $60.

There was plenty of pro and con dialogue.  Those in favor say they are more than ready for the meters and say the city has done plenty of studying.  Some of the people who spoke against the idea suggested the Mayor was trying to ram his plan through before his term expires.
