Paul Hornung Reminiscing his Past Career

Paul Hornung former Heisman Trophy winner and NFL Hall of Famer with the Green Bay Packers, joins the Bald Faced Truth with John Canzano to talk about his incredible career and the Heisman Trophy voting process.

Hornung chose to attend Notre Dame in 1953 and would be one of the best decisions he would make in his life. His time spent at Notre Dame would give him national praise as being one of the best all around football players in Notre Dame History. Being able to play multiple positions over his career at Notre Dame gave his stats the boost to win him the Heisman Trophy in 1965 even though he was on a losing team.

With Notre Dame going undefeated this season, Hornung is proud of his team and surprised they have been able to keep such an amazing season going. Not many people thought Notre Dame would have zero losses by the end of the season.

“Yeah I really was, I don’t think anybody expected an undefeated season. They played a very tough schedule and to go through that undefeated is quite a feat”.

Hornung has been happy to give back to Notre Dame by starting his first scholarship by selling his Heisman Trophy for $250,000 and giving the money to Notre Dame and then to two students every year. Hornung has also recently started giving away his own trophy for the most versatile player in the NCAA.

“I started my own award here three years ago given out to the most versatile football player. I thought that versatility of a football player, sense I was one myself; I thought that maybe we could get by by giving out the Paul Hornung Trophy to the most versatile football player in America and its work out great”.

Paul has spent many years now giving back to his alma mater and to the football community of America for both the NCAA and the NFL. He has enjoyed receiving the praise of his fans from around the nation and is proud to have played under Vince Lombardi along with many of his other teammates for the Green Bay Packers.

“Well it was special, you know we won five championships under Coach Lombardi and the Packers are very proud of that. And each player who had the opportunity to play for him I think feels the same way”.
