Angie Swartout - DMV

November 17, 2012, 9:40 am

A woman police and friends feared was missing and endangered was found safely early Saturday morning.  Angie Swartout was located in Northeast Portland and transported to a Portland hospital to be checked for hypothermia.

A U.S. Postal Service letter carrier found her asleep on the front porch of a neighbor in the 1000 block of Northeast Stafford Street.

Police say that it does not appear that she was injured or assaulted overnight and has no idea who the man was that gave her a ride.

The Portland Police Bureau reminds people that accepting rides from strangers is discouraged and that community members should only accept transportation from someone they know or legitimate taxi services.

The Portland Police Bureau Missing Persons Unit is asking for the public's help locating a missing, possibly endangered woman who was last seen early this morning in Northeast Portland.

25-year-old Angelica May (Angie) Swartout and her friend accepted a ride from an African American male driving a newer silver Prius or similar vehicle from Northwest 12th Avenue and Everett Street at approximately 3:30 a.m., after leaving a Downtown Portland bar.

At approximately 4:00 a.m., in the area of Northeast 14th Avenue and Skidmore Street, the friend got out of the car to check street signs as she was disoriented on directions to Swartout's residence after the driver had driven around the block several times. Once the friend was out of the car, the driver left the area, with Swartout passed out in the back seat of the car.

Officers have checked Swartout's residence in the 4300 block of Northeast 10th Avenue and she has not been seen or heard from by roommates.

Swartout is described as a Native American female, 5'8" tall, medium build, last seen wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt over a white tank top, light-colored blue jeans, and white Adidas tennis shoes.

The unidentified driver is described as an African American male in his late 30s, taller than 6', thin build, glasses, had a foreign accent, and mentioned that he lived in Northeast Portland.

Anyone seeing Angie Swartout is asked to immediately call 9-1-1. Anyone with non-emergency information is asked to call Detective Lori Goodwin at (503) 823-1081.
