We’re all familiar with post-turkey lethargy, but for those with Parkinson’s it’s more than the tryptophan at work.
This week on OHSU’s blog, “
On the Brain,” Dr. Amie Peterson, M.D., explores the effect of protein rich foods, such as turkey, on the efficacy of Parkinson’s medication. Dr. Peterson
explains in detail the effect of high protein meals on Parkinson’s medication, which can cause more slowness of movement and stiffness.
Dr. Peterson suggests eating Thanksgiving dinner later in the day to avoid stiffness and slower movement early in the day and have morning and afternoon meals consist of heavier grain, fruit, and vegetables.
With simple planning and consideration everyone can enjoy Thanksgiving dinner. Read more on OHSU’s blog, “
