The Sugary Taste of Wasted Tax Dollars
Folks like Vancouver Mayor Tim Leavitt don’t care what the voters tell him when it comes to that multi-billion dollar boondoggle bridge over the Columbia river.

Last
week, folks in Clark county turned down funding for light rail operations. Yet Leavitt told me yesterday that he doesn't take that as a “no” vote on rail. Instead he says we have to have efficient transportation.
I pointed out to him that rail is insanely
expensive…you can buy ten buses for the cost of one train car, the tracks go
for as much as 200-million a mile, and the thing travels at an average speed of
19 miles an hour. Leavitt admits that’s
not very efficient but he’s not backing down.
He campaigned for office with a promise to oppose tolls on the
interstate five bridge, yet the rail bridge over the Columbia requires tolls
that are allowed to go to 8 bucks per crossing, each way…a crippling cost for
daily commuters.
Doesn't matter. Leavitt drank the CRC Kool-Aid and he’s not
turning back...
