A Portland Police officer needed staples to close a wound to his head after an altercation with a suspect near Northeast 72nd and Killingsworth last night.
Officer Jakhary Jackson told a jaywalking pedestrian to use the crosswalk, but Thomas Carlston didn't want to hear it, yelled profanities at him and charged at the officer.
The 41-year-old is accused of shoulder tackling Officer Jackson and hitting him in the back of the head with a large glass mug. A taser, pepper spray and baton had little effect in stopping Carlston.
Officer Jackson called for back-up as they fought for 50 yards. It took five officers to arrest the man.
