February 17, 2012, 2:31 amOregon State University and University of California-Davis are the only two colleges to have breweries on campus. At OSU, it's part of the food technology program. About 100 students are enrolled, according to brewery manager Jeff Clawson. He says students learn everything there is to know about brewing and do a lot of research and development. One field of research is with hops. Oregon grows 5% of the world's hop crop. Students grow and brew different varieties. The brewery isn't open to the public and they don't sell the beer. In fact Clawson says 99% of the beer they make, goes down the drain.
