A former sergeant with Gladstone Police has been arrested for the murder of his estranged spouse last May. Debbie Higbee-Benton was shot to death at her beauty salon.

A judge issued a warrant last week for the arrest of Lynn Benton. She was caught this morning in Portland.

Susan Campbell, Benton's best friend, was arrested for the murder. She says she was hired to do the deed and promised $2,000 for the killing, but wasn't paid because Benton couldn't access her former lover's lock box.

Detectives earlier said that they believe photos of the victim's abused body was the motive.

Benton was in the process of changing her sex from female to male around the time of the murder.
