The Beavers are coming off a tough loss to the Stanford Cardinal in which they very easily could have won and they are getting ready for another tough battle tomorrow night as they take on the USC Trojans in Corvallis. Beavers’ wide receiver Brandin Cooks joined Chad on Flight 750 Thursday to weigh in on Saturday loss and preview tomorrow’s matchup in Corvallis.Cooks says that Sean Mannion does not get enough credit for the toughness that he plays with out on the field.
“That guy is a tough kid and he showed it Saturday night when taking a couple sacks like that, getting right back up and still being patient in the pocket and not being afraid and trying to hurry things up. You’ve got to commend him on that. Now everyone knows he’s really tough.”
Cooks also said that there were some positives to take away from Saturday night’s loss to Stanford.
“You make so many mistakes like that against a top-ten team and you only lose by a touchdown, you’ve got to realize that ‘Wow, we can play with anybody.’ And even though we’re not going to pat ourselves on the shoulder because we didn’t get the W – An L is an L and that’s all that matters at the end of the day. But in order to hang in with a team like that, you’ve got to be doing something well.”
And finally Cooks talked about how the extra weight he put on in the off season has allowed him to become one of the best wide receivers in the country.
“It helped a ton. It just shows. If I caught 14 balls last year I’d probably be feeling it by now. Now it’s like it’s just another day, another game. And that’s all it’s about, just putting on that weight helped me a lot. It helps me break tackles and makes it so I’m not going to go down on the first tackle and on that first hit.”
Take a listen to the great interview and be sure to stay tuned to 750thegame the rest of the week as we preview the big showdown in Corvallis between the Beavers and Trojans.
