Mike Pereira Analyzes The BFT

Fox Sports rules analyst and former NFL Director of Officiating Mike Pereira
joined host John Canzano Friday afternoon on The Bald Faced Truth to talk about his broadcasting and officiating career.
Pereira was hired by Fox to analyze officiating during games. "I think I filled a necessary void. When they hire people for analysis it's always ex-players and ex-coaches. An ex-player can tell you how the game is played and an ex-coach can tell you how the game is coached but it was FOX that decided to take the extra step with me that said if we have an analyst that could let people know how the game is officiated and why things are called we would fill that void for the fan."
Pereira started his career with officiating and has noted that it has become more complicated. "This whole player safety notion almost wasn't even around when I officiated college football. There was no notion of targeting or hits to the head so it's relatively new so therefore officials are having to make adjustments. They are having to look at things they never had to look at before. It's been a tough transition for them."
