Most people know Chris Dudley as either the former Blazer and NBA tough guy who was willing to go toe-to-toe with the likes of Shag and Hakeem the Dream or the former politician who very nearly became the governor of Oregon in 2010. But Dudley is also one of the most outspoken advocates for diabetes awareness and diabetes research – having been diagnosed with the disease as a teenager. He joined Chad on Flight 750 Thursday to talk about the Circle on the Court Event coming back to the Rose City on November 8th.Dudley insists that diabetes is one of the most prevalent diseases in the entire world – And in particular, the U.S.
“One out of three people born today are expected to have diabetes in their lifetime and one out of three dollars that the country spends on healthcare is somehow diabetes-related. So it’s an issue that’s unfortunately a growing epidemic and we need to become more aware of it and get a handle on it.”
Dudley also talked about the purpose of the Circle on the Court event.
“What we’re trying to do here obviously is get ahead of it. And help people to get ahead of it and help them become aware of the risks that are out there and what you can do to prevent it or at least postpone it. And if you do get it, we want you to know how you can treat it and not let it dictate your life, but you control it.”
And finally, we got Dudley’s opinion on the Blazers’ offseason acquisition of Robin Lopez. Dudley says that he’s very happy with the move.
“What Robin will do is he’ll really help free up LaMarcus and take some of the pressure off him…I like that addition. I like what he does for the Blazers, but I like that he can help LaMarcus by freeing him up a little bit.”
