The Oregon Ducks are coming off a win versus the Washington State Cougars in which the running game had its best performance of the season – rushing for nearly 400 yards in total. Ducks’ Radio Analyst Mike Jorgensen joined Chad on Flight 750 Monday to recap the game and to preview Saturday’s big matchup versus UCLA.
Jorgy talked about Nick Aliotti’s postgame comments in response to Mike Leach having Connor Halliday throw the ball nearly 90 times and leaving his starters in the game versus what was essentially a scout team defense for Oregon.
“He was protecting his guys. He was fired up after a game like that. He felt like his guys played their hearts out…He got caught in the heat of the moment and obviously came out with an official apology. I love the guy’s passion. I don’t really have a problem with his postgame remarks, but I thought it was a high-class move to issue an apology.”
Jorgy also talked about the dominant performance of the running game Saturday.
“When you’re pushing people around, when you’re running for close to 400 yards – Tyner and Marshall almost ran for 300 combined between the two of them – That has attitude with it. And to me, when you get that attitude going, you’re pushing people around, you’re making big plays, you’re somewhat manhandling people, it makes everything else work.”
And finally Jorgy looked ahead at the big game versus the Bruins this weekend.
“It’s going to be interesting to see if they go down the same path that Washington did. Washington went down to Stanford, lost a really tough, physical game, came back home and lost to Oregon, and then they just ran out of gas at ASU. But they’re very athletic - I think easily the most athletic team on both sides of the ball that is going to have faced yet so far this year, particularly on defense, they’ve got some athletes on that side of the ball.”
Take a listen to the great interview and be sure to tune for Jerry and Jorgy’s call this weekend as the Ducks take on the Bruins at 4:00pm at Autzen Stadium.
