One of the so-called "Oregon Five" will soon be a free man. Shane Sopher was able to convince the Oregon Parole Board that he is a changed man after beating his girlfriends mother to death. Sopher was just 16-years old when he murdered Donna Borrow back in 1992. All five killed when they were under the age of 17, and back in the 1990's the State of Oregon wasn't sure how to punish them. They ended up with sentences of life in prison. A sentence that turns out to be harsher then the sentence they were handing out to adults. And the Oregon Supreme court said that wasn't fare. And now the Oregon Parole Board decided yesterday that Sopher will be out of prison in 33 days. He reflected on the night he beat Donna Borrow to death with a baseball bat, who survived initially, but then died 10-days later. He's now 37, and told the board he's not the same person he was then. The parole board is also considering the release Laycelle and Lydell White. The twin brothers killed a senior couple at the age of just 15. They say now, they would be good citizens. The board has a tentative release date for 2018. As for Sterling Cunio, he will not see the outside world tell 2066. He kidnapped and murdered a Salem couple. Conrad Engweiler raped and murdered a 16-year old girl when he was 15-years old, his release date was determined earlier this year for 2018.| Add your comments below | |
