Bob Eubanks is one of the most well-known game show hosts that has ever been on TV. He is most famous for his work the The Newlywed Game, but he has also hosted Rhyme and Reason, Dream House and Trivia Trap as well as many others. He joined Chad on Flight 750 Wednesday to talk about his great career in show business.Eubanks insists that he owes a lot of his success to the great Chuck Barris for giving him a shot and allowing him the time he needed to learn his job with The Newlywed Game.
“I had no idea what I was doing. And in today’s market, I would have been fired my first week. But Chuck, he let me learn how to do the show. And God bless him for that.”
He also talked about the ways radio has changed since he was a DJ back in the 60’s.
“You guys are lucky these days because you have other people in the studio with you and you have weather men in there – All of that. Back in the day, it was us and an engineer that wouldn’t laugh and we were what they call time and temperature disk jockeys. I wasn’t a very good disk jockey. I was there with the big guys – Casey Kasem and Wink Martindale – Real radio guys and then there’s this little twerp Bob Eubanks.”
And finally he talked about what makes game shows so popular with people.
“I think it’s the ability to relate. When you watch Jeopardy and you can answer the Double-Jeopardy question, you feel pretty dog-gone smart. And if I were to say ‘What’s your husband’s most annoying habit,’ I can hear America saying what their most annoying habit is. So I think you can relate to it.”
Take a listen to the great interview and be sure to check him out at Spirit Mountain Casino this weekend as he hosts America’s Greatest Game Shows.
