ST. HELENS, Ore. -- Haunted tours that mix history and theater begin tonight in St. Helens.
Brian Vaerewyck with the ShoeString Community Players
says the tour visits St. Helens Square and First Street, which he says have a bunch of strange noises and cold spots for no apparent reason.
He says they also include the Columbia County Courthouse, where he says a man can be seen roaming the halls and sometimes rings the bell in the tower. Vaerewyck thinks it may be August Shivey, one of the first men to be hanged in the town. After Shivey died, his father admitted he was the killer, not his son.
The Klondike Tavern is another stop, where you can hear voices upstairs. The tavern was once a house of ill repute back in the day when it was a hotel.
