Dwight Clark is a two-time Super Bowl Champion, a two-time Pro Bowl selection and was on the receiving end of one of the greatest plays in the history of the NFL.  He joined Chad on Flight 750 Wednesday to talk about the catch and to talk about a special event he’s got coming up in the Portland area from October 19th through the 21st.

Clark maintains that he got his start in the NFL in large part because Bill Walsh was headed to Clemson looking for Clark’s college teammate, Steve Fuller.  He called one day and lucky for Clark, he was the one who answered the phone.

“We ended up chatting for a little bit before Steve got to the phone and Bill said ‘Well if you’re a receiver would you come run some routes for me so I can watch Steve throw instead of having to catch the ball.’  I said yes and I just had one of those lucky days…caught everything – all the bad throws, behind and over my head and all that…so Bill ended up drafting me instead of Steve Fuller.”

Clark spoke to what it was like to have one of the best QBs of all time, Joe Montana, throwing balls to him.

“He was a competitor.  He was a hard worker.  He had great field vision…Unbelievable accuracy and judgment. And scouts used to say he was magical…He could come up with any play when he needed it, and it happened time after time.

Clark and former Duck and 49er great Dave Wilcox will be in the Portland area from October 19th through the 21st for the first annual 49ers Legends Weekend.  The guys will be at Pumpkin Ridge on Saturday and at the Wooden Chicken Pub Sunday signing autographs.  The event will help benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation in Oregon.

Take a listen to the interview and be sure to check out the 49ers Legends Weekend coming up soon.
